Y’all, my in-laws got us the holiest of holy Cajun cooking vessels- a Magnalite roaster. And look at it! It’s GINORMOUS! So far I have made a huge batch of gumbo, which I froze, and today I made a triple batch of beef stew, which I will freeze. Hello! I’m like the Cajun effin’ ant over here. When all the Cajun grasshoppers are craving gumbo in July but complain that it’s too hot to cook it, I will be sitting back in my A.C. noshing away in less than 15 minutes.

My husband, who is of Yankee stock, has dubbed this pot “the VW Beetle,” and says there’s no way a household of 2 people needs a pot this big. To which I scream in his face, “Gumbo all year round, b****h!” and then his Yankee stock ass shuts up.

I’m not sure I can trust a discount psychic named Jennifer. Oh, this was on my car at WalMart this afternoon. That’s what I get for going to WalMart.

Stopped by the cutest little shop in the world while in NOLA. Fleurty Girl creates tees (and other items) with “yatititude.”  If you’ve got an affinity for NOLA in any way, you’ll love her designs!  If you can’t go by her Oak Street shop (and you should if you are in NOLA!), you can purchase online.  I got the True Dat and Who D@ designs for myself, and the Bressus is My Homeboy as a Christmas gift for a friend who, by the way, LOVED it.  But she’s got lots and lots of designs sure to please anyone who loves NOLA, particularly those who grew up there or married a native.  Check her out!

Totally loving the granny Isotoner slippers I got from my Amazon Wishlist for Christmas. Thanks, godson/nephew Sam (or really your mom since, ya know, you’re like 7 years old).

Reaux Family Fire

I never solicit through my tumblr, but this is a very special circumstance.   Laura Reaux is a local photographer.  She and her husband have 5 beautiful children, and their home and all of their belongings were pretty much wiped out by a house fire on Christmas Day.  If you can donate any amount of money to help this wonderful family, Laura and her family would appreciate it so, so much!  You can visit her website and donate through the PayPal button:   http://www.laurareaux.com/

If you decide to help this family, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! A million times from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

What a magical anniversary weekend in NOLA (minus the Saints’ loss)!  I am officially in love with Le Pavillion.  I wasn’t aware that they do a turn down service without even being asked to do so.  They leave bottled water and their “signature” peanut butter and jelly cookies.  They also leave a card with the recipe for the cookies.  They also turn down the bed and lay out one of their fluffy white robes.  Yeah, I pretty much wanted to move in.  Of course, before I left I took all of the toiletries and the notepad and pen.  Cuz I’m classy like that. Can’t wait to go back!

Live AND Die

  • Me: I'm just sayin', in this day and age, I don't know how you don't know that.
  • Zandy: Not everyone lives on their iPhone like you.
  • Me: I don't live on my iPhone! I exist through my iPhone!

Cruising down I-10 on our way back to the ‘Fette. It’s a fabulously crisp and sunny day in south Louisiana.

A view this morning from the rooftop pool deck of our hotel Le Pavillion which, by the way, I cannot reccomend highly enough to those of you who appreciate historic hotels. Gorgeous and elegant with a wonderful staff. The rooms are not as large as the newer hotels but they are beautiful and not as small as rooms at the hotels (new and old) in the Quarter.

I’ve wanted to stay at this hotel since I was a little girl, and it did not disappoint!
